Chimneys Age in Dog Years This Close to the Water
Salt rides in on every onshore breeze, and it works on caps, dampers and mortar all year without a day off. We're the South Bay crew that fights back — sweeping, repointing and re-capping beach-city chimneys at any hour, Monday through Saturday.
Full Chimney Care, Tuned for Life Beside the Pacific
One crew carries the brushes, the trowels and the stainless hardware. From a bungalow in the Avenues to a hillside place above the Riviera, the same techs see the job through.
Sweeping & Creosote Clearing
Even mild winters build creosote when the marine layer keeps fires burning damp. The full flue gets brushed and the soot leaves in a sealed vacuum.
The no-bill look-over reads the whole system. When proof matters — a sale, a claim, a doubt — the camera rides the flue and what it sees goes on paper.
Galvanized hardware surrenders to salt in a few seasons here. Stainless and copper caps, storm collars and county-approved arrestor screens hold the line.
Seven Tells of a Beach-City Chimney Losing the Fight
A chimney three blocks from the surf line shows its trouble differently than one inland. These are the tells we get called about most — and every one is cheaper caught early.
Rust streaks bleeding down the stackThe cap or damper is corroding and washing iron onto the brick with every fog.
White-green crust on the masonrySalt crystallizing inside the joints — it holds moisture and grinds mortar to sand.
Smoke rolls inside when the wind is onshoreDraft trouble — a clogged arrestor screen, a short flue or a blocked run.
The damper grinds or sticks halfwaySalt rust in the mechanism — and a damper that won't seal leaks warm air all year.
Wet-tar shine up the flue throatGlazed creosote, the flammable kind. No more fires until it's out.
Mortar grit on the patio or deckThe joints overhead are letting go, grain by grain, storm by storm.
A stain spreading near the chimney after rainCrown or flashing has opened a path — sideways storm rain finds it every time.
Any hour, Monday–SaturdayStorm damage at dawn, smoke at dinner, scratching in the flue at midnight — (424) 203-0490 reaches a live person, and urgent jobs get the next truck out.

Salt-Straight Answers
South Bay Chimney Questions, Sorted
What's the price on an inspection?
There's no bill for looking — house rule. A tech reads the firebox, damper, flue, crown, cap and exterior brick, then lays out the verdict right there on the driveway. Want it typed with photos for escrow, an insurer or your own file? That's the $149 condition report, printed only when you say so.
Does beach air honestly wear a chimney out faster?
Dramatically. The onshore breeze carries salt over the first mile inland every day of the year — it rusts galvanized caps and dampers, and it soaks into mortar where it crystallizes and pries the joints apart. That's why hardware here should be stainless or copper, why repellents must breathe, and why a yearly look matters more at the beach than anywhere inland.
Around the clock — really? What about Sundays?
Monday through Saturday the phone reaches a real person at any hour, and genuine emergencies get a truck no matter the time. Sundays the shop goes dark — call anyway, leave your name, and you're first on Monday's board.
Our fireplace runs gas logs. Is there anything to service?
Yearly, yes. Gas exhaust carries acidic moisture that corrodes venting and mortar from the inside, and coastal air speeds that up. A rusted-through or blocked gas vent sends carbon monoxide into the room with no smoke to warn you — we go flue by flue through the whole house in a single appointment.
We're in escrow. How fast can you turn the paperwork?
Escrow calls jump the schedule. The look-over usually lands within a day or two, and the $149 typed report follows within one business day — with photos and findings your agent, the buyer's inspector and the escrow officer can all act on.
Is a spark arrestor required this close to the water?
The county wants spark-arresting mesh over any flue that burns wood, whatever the zip — and the fire-severity zones up the hill tighten those rules another notch. We fit stainless arrestor caps and clean screens that salt crust and soot have half-sealed — a choked screen ruins draft long before anyone spots it.
How messy is a sweep, and how long does it take?
About an hour, and the room stays spotless: cloths first, opening sealed, HEPA suction running the whole time. The soot rides out in the machine.
What earns a middle-of-the-night call?
Smoke coming back into the room, gas smell near a hearth, an animal in the flue, or masonry down after a storm — (424) 203-0490, any hour Monday through Saturday. Open flames or suspected carbon monoxide? Everyone out, 911 first, us second.
